I had started this as a project journal for all kinds of things related to historical Venice, but it has turned into a blog about working my way through all of the recipes in a 14/15 century Venetian cooking manuscript called Libro di cucina/ Libro per cuoco. I will be taking each of the vague historical recipes and experimenting with turning them into modern recipes. While I do also do some cooking using historical methods (e.g. cooking over fire) these entries will almost all be about my cooking these historical recipes in my modern kitchen, while being as true to the ingredients and techniques given as possible.
I live just south of Seattle, Washington, United States, but my heart is in Venice. I'm intending to make this predominantly a blog about my projects. I'm an amature researcher and historican with particular interest in all aspects of life in 1570's Venice, the clothing, food, money, social and material culture.
